Final Major Project
Wabi-Sabi Magazine
For my final major project in Year 3, I created a fashion and lifestyle publication called Wabi-Sabi. Targeting towards Asian women and focusing on a combination of political topics on the Asian community as well as looking at fashion and beauty. Incorporating incisive interviews, articles, and creative writing with a range of illustrations and photography, the magazine comes together to a professional standard. Wabi-Sabi offers an impactful perspective on representation, celebrates differences, and challenges racial inequality within the industry with passion and courage. I created three outcomes for this project: a magazine, an Instagram page, and a portfolio showcasing my journey on this project.

WABI-SABI MAGAZINE
Alongside my magazine, I created a social platform using Instagram and Tiktok to showcase my 'behind the scenes' clips. i really enjoyed this part of my project because I was able to direct the shoots, style the models and backdrops and expand my creativity. During the photoshoots, I filmed a lot of clips to showcase my work in progress and created them into reels. Using sharp editing, transitions, and upbeat music to fit the outcomes of the shoot for each model with their unique story, background, and personality.

FASHION IN CONTEXT
An academic study which explores the representation of feminine beauty in the mainstream media and examines the occidentalisation of beauty standards in East Asia. Exploring academic theories such as The Male Gaze by Laura Mulvey, objection by Julia Kristeva and along with many textual and image analyses. Further looking at Edward W Said's concept of Orientalism where he explains the West's contemptuous depiction and portrayal of the East and how many different races around the world are 'Othered'. My dissertation topic also inspired me to use this research as part of my final major project and bring it to life.
